The cervix is a lot rounder than I imagined. I was reading Belly Tales, and she linked to a blog where a woman took photos of her cervix every day through a cycle and posted them. Really cool.

I went to see Act Your Age recordings again with

humanfemale. One of the guests was Stan Boardman. Sample joke: "I took my wife out the other night. One punch." It was all quite hideous and racist and horrible. He wouldn't stop talking. It didn't get any better. On the train on the way home I read the Virgin magazine, and in an interview (so not even with his "ironic" persona), Jimmy Carr described Nadia Almada as "the she-male". I'm not going to tag this entry as comedy, it's not true.

But I did have some very nice fried chicken, so a trip not entirely composed of bigotry.

I have a lump on the back of my head. I don't know how it got there, and it's quite tender when I poke at it, which I do quite a bit. Hopefully eventually this week my room will be finished and I can move everything back. This morning I woke up to shadowy shapes in my curtained window and thumps on the roof. Then there was a pause, and a voice said "uh, looks like there's a problem here...". So let's just not think about that. I got invited to someone's house for roast dinner on Sunday. I am looking forward to the beef.

I like the descriptions of how your cervix feels at different points through the cycle. I've seen it described as being hard like the tip of your nose at some points and soft like your lips at others.

I remember being surprised at how defined the cervix was when I first saw it during physiology studies. And just because I suffered the experience twice and Have To Share, let me tell you, there is nothing like the pain of somebody shoving their hand *through* your cervix in an attempt to see how far it will stretch.

Maybe the lump on your head is a result of the bigotry?

I'm not, actually! I pretty much never try things that I read, just assimilate the information for future use. (So those emails that end up "and most of you will have tried to do this while reading the email!!!" never apply either.) Plus I know what my nose and lips feel like anyway. In Anne Summers etc they sometimes say to test vibrators on the tip of your nose. Or I've made that up somehow.

I can fully believe that there is nothing like that pain! I hope I never discover how far my cervix will stretch.

Due to brain collapse, perhaps, or perhaps I was banging my head against something without noticing.

Just think of how much more peaceful our world would be if the defining symbol underlying our culture was a cervix instead of a phallus.

Ha - hadn't read that properly, only really looked at the pictures. I imagine if we had a sudden executive change, then it might slow down things while people took time to tilt their heads and go "what is that?". I suppose if you see weapons as inherently phallic that might work. Though you could totally make a ring that fit over someone's head and then contracted, strangling them slowly but surely.

And obviously not something you see on a regular basis (unless you're a gynecologist, o'course...). Thanks for the link!

I've previously had a nurse tell me that my cervix was hard to find and wondered how this could possibly be true, but looking at the pictures I see that at certain times it does indeed seem to hide.

I hope you don't either. It's another sign of western medicine thinking it knows better than nature. Natural childbirth ensures a baby hangs on, and only goes through the cervix when it's stretched so thin that the nerves are pinched and blocked. Of course, western medicine has decided there is a magical figure of 10cms for every woman that is Go for childbirth. They'll both force the cervix to that dilation before they let you push, and they'll also tell you to ignore your body and start pushing as soon as you reach it.

Grrr. Sorry, that's more graphic and ranty than I intended, but it's amazing how such a seemingly insignificant approach can feel like such a violation when you do understand the purpose of your cervix!

Random piece of information, just in case you ever go looking for your own cervix, but having a full bladder can lift the womb and make the cervix more accessible. I discovered that when I had embryos implanted during an ICSI cycle. Apparently I excel at relaxing certain muscles (while people poke spatulas and tubes inside you) and simultaneously hanging onto a bladder full to bursting! Perhaps that's why I'm not bad at bellydancing - it's the whole isolation thing. :)
