2008 Books

Last year I read 126 books, which is the latest in a pattern of less reading these days. I read 244 books in 2005, then 224 in 2006, and 134 last year. This year 13.5% of the books were rereads, compared to about 2% last year.

I wish I had been doing something productive with the lost reading time, or indeed had been reading more (or even something approaching enough) for work, but this is not the case. I've been online a LOT.

In 2009 I would like to be reading more again. I want to make a significant dent the massive number of unread books I have in my room, as it is starting to bother me that there are so many of them. I want to read them, indeed they were bought with that express aim in mind, but somehow it hasn't happened yet.

However, I also want to reread my Elsie J Oxenhams, with a view to selling them unless I find myself dramatically more attached to them once the reading is done, which I have to say isn't very likely. While I do quite enjoy them, I fear that I mostly had them because of their value, and frankly I'd rather have the money (and shelf space) at this point. The main sticking point is that I know that it's going to be monstrously difficult (and expensive) to replace them if at a later date I want to

I think I'll keep The Abbey Girls, and perhaps any others I wrote about for my MA, and then I will try to be ruthless about everything else. (I will probably post a list up of what I have at some point. Then people can let me know if they're after a particular title, and I'll notify them once I've got a price - I'm afraid they won't be particularly cheap, so no pressure or anything like that.)

(My word, Craig Charles was beautiful in the early series of Red Dwarf. Apparently he's in Corrie now.)
