Yes, I was told to take ibuprofen beforehand, which I thought was instead of the local aneasthetic, and then when I showed up they said they would give me the injection. I think it's because doctors tend to have problems finding my cervix (I really don't know why - I've never had any problem). I got the impression it was standard for women who hadn't had children.
