More Cassons!

OH THIS IS BRILLIANT!

New Hilary McKay Casson book!

(The cover looks APPALLING, and even if I weren't firmly opposed to publishers changing the covers of new titles so that the series doesn't match, I do not like photos on books.)

New Casson book! It's called Caddy's World, and it's about Caddy when she was younger and Rose was just born. It comes out in May, and that's not now, but it is pretty soon. I'm so glad that she went back on her statement that it was the last book. (Maybe she will write more Exiles too? I would like that.)

Has anyone read Hilary McKay's Pudding Bag School series? I thought that she'd only written books for younger children apart from Cassons, Exiles and Dog Friday, but her site suggests that it's for ages 9-12 like the others.

I am going to read back issues of Rose's blog now.

Hurrah! and thanks for the heads up. I've just pre-ordered it. Have to agree about the cover; why can't they make it match the others?

Oh, hurrah! I love those books.

I think it will be nice to see Caddy as a child. And interesting to see Bill and Eve living together before he left. Is there already strain and does Caddy notice?

It seems such a shame not to make them match. The others look lovely together on the shelves.

Interesting questions... Thanks for the alert!

Also, I like the artist on the other covers. The same happened with some Tamora Pierce books in a series - a bunch of them were drawn by that same artist and then replaced by other versions, bah.

So, I should read Hilary McKay then? Have never read any of these books. Which one to start with plsthnks?

Oh yes, definitely! I think her Exiles books are the best ones, and the first one is called The Exiles. Of the Cassons series, Saffy's Angel is first. I think start with the Exiles, or any that you get your hands on really.

Good! Will look out for them at the library then.

Oh oh oh. *is not listening because has no money*

I love the series, though I prefer the earlier ones. I'd LOVE to read one from early on.

Ooh, you've now made life difficult again because I've never read the Exiles. *will add to wishlist*

But - have you read the sequel to A Little Princess? You have to think of the book as being a McKay version of things - by which I mean, it's not standard fanfic trying to be like the original, but is a slant on it.

Oh you will probably LOVE The Exiles! Get get get. Yes, I've read the sequel, I liked it a lot. Lovely Ermingarde, and trying to be kind to Lottie, and brilliant awful Lavinia.

I prefer the earlier ones too - I think this one will be good regardless but I'm not sure how it will work.

Very happy to know this! Though like you I wish she would write more Exiles books - I suppose Exiles in Love does rather wrap things up, but she could always go back.
