Belfast

I (probably) have to go to Belfast for a day with work, so I'm going to take my floating bank holiday and spend some time there beforehand. I've never been before - what should I try to see and do while I'm there? I might go to the Giant's Causeway if I can work out how to get there by public transport. People in my team recommended the troubles taxi tour, but I'm not entirely sure about that... Oh, also somewhere cheap and quiet to stay.

Are you going for the PSA conference, by any chance?

Googling tells me that PSA is political studies association? No - it's a meeting for civil service stuff, in early April.

Fliss has been to Belfast with work several times, and she has always stayed at Tara Lodge, which costs about £70 per night.

Her review, given to me five minutes ago: "The nicest hotel room you can ever imagine with an amazing mattress, the nicest people you can think of, free wifi, and excellent cooked breakfast (if peppery)." I asked her if it was quiet, and she said yes, you'll sleep like a baby.

Unfortunately my Belfast knowledge stops at 7 years ago, a lot has changed since then. They have the usual chain hotels, travelodge, holiday inn etc

Depending when you are there, they might have the Titanic thing set up:

I'd recommend seeing the Giant's Causeway. If you're into whiskey the Old Bushmills Distillery might be worth a visit.

Ace! Thank you, and thanks to Fliss.

Titanic! That's a good idea, thanks.
