I had a look at wordnik, which I like. It suggested that I could expect to see "fun" a few times a month. HOW I WISH THAT WERE TRUE. (Bugger has a not unexpected concentration between 1920 and 1950.)

Also, [livejournal.com profile] antisoppist linked to Greyladies, and I want LOTS. I have actually got one of the Susan Scarlett (Noel Streatfeild) books, and the Josephine Elder, but at the time that I bought them I couldn't find a website, and now I am pleased. I should probably wait until my Persephone order comes through. But I don't want to.

Oh my goodness, I NEED the Susan Scarlett ones. Damn empty wallet.

The wonderful [livejournal.com profile] katlinel gave me Lady of Letters when I was in Edinburgh last year. I read it on the flight to Boston, and then a few days later, on the flight back home. It's very good. BUT I hadn't seen the website before, and now I want lots, too. In fact, I want all of them. And I'm charmed by the posting distinctions: UK, Europe, Rest of World. I feel very remote out here in the Rest of World. :)

Which Persephones did you get??

I got Miss Buncle's Book, Making Conversation, and The Young Pretenders. All newish ones - but I don't have time or space! I am seriously considering taking a week off in September/October and going somewhere just to read. I might be due a break then anyway, and it would make me feel less guilty about the huge amount of books I haven't read.

Have you not come across that before? RoW is fairly standard to lots of the things I see. They have it in football sometimes.

A reading holiday sounds like just about the best idea ever. A nice week somewhere (with an open fire and comfort food!) in October sounds absolutely blissful.

(And RoW is official post office designation for prices, which is probably why they've adopted it)

Yes, I know! But [livejournal.com profile] anglaisepaon is not in the UK, so she won't know about the vagaries of the Post Office.

The more I think about it, the better an idea it sounds.

Nice choices! I have Miss Buncle's Book, which is wonderful and happy-making, and not just because Bex surprised me with it.

A week off for reading sounds like a great idea. And justification for buying a few more books, too, and then telling us about them.

I've not seen it before, but then, I don't really watch sports.

Oh! That sound you hear is my wallet, scuttling away to hide!

I want them all too - I did buy the first Susan Scarlett but I am just pretending the others aren't there until we have have restored the fallen fortunes of the House of Dacious.

That is a good plan. I sort of wish I hadn't seen the link myself.

All my fault! I wonder if they'd give me commission. It would make up for Persephone telling me politely that their "all week" only covers Monday to Friday so I don't get my free book because I ordered on Saturday night.

[identity profile] slemslempike.livejournal.com 2009-06-22 04:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, how mean of them! Did they say before? Hmph.

[identity profile] antisoppist.livejournal.com 2009-06-22 04:55 pm (UTC)(link)
The e-mail was dated Monday and it said "all week on the website" and "this week only".

I forgot until Saturday and I did think it was a bit of a grey area because with the "can I have my extra book" comment I did write "if this is still valid". They said their week is the week when the shop is open so they didn't get my order until this morning and that's too late. The problem is that they think they are a physical shop with proper doors and opening hours and I think of them as a 24 hours a day website.
