Writer's Block: Leftovers of leftovers

[Error: unknown template qotd]

Ordinarily I SHUN the writer's block thing, but only last week I ate CAMEL HUMP and SHEEP BILE, and I cannot resist the opportunity to show off.

As a vegetarian, I am repulsed. But the 12 year old in me is grossed out and impressed in equal measures and high fives you.

How does one eat camel hump? Is it like ribs, and you just gnaw on it?

Camel hump is entirely fat, and it is chopped into little lumps and fried. It is quite nice in very small doses, but more is a but much.

Was it from a one hump or two hump camel?

I think that it was one hump (they all seemed to be in Sudan). I definitely couldn't have managed TWO humps!

Since everyone else has asked about the camel hump; how was the sheep bile?

Disgusting! Partly, though, I didn't like it much because it was flavoured with very strong chilis, which I hate. But around the chilis there was a distinctly unpleasant taste of bile familiar from vomiting. I would not eat it again.

I think perhaps I shouldn't go to Sudan.

But I bet you can have the last word in 'unusual food' conversations for years, with that. Did the two come together?

Actually, the thing I ate most in Sudan was pizza! And the camel meat was entirely optional and very nice. I think I could even have refused politely and not offended people (though having agreed to eat it it was apparently MANDATORY that I keep eating, as I was urged to take more even when my mouth was full).

I think we had to ask specially to get both. And apparently camel bile is poisonous? I will win some conversations on the subject, but I think [livejournal.com profile] yiskah will have me beat. Not to mention anyone who actually eats mushrooms.
