(no subject)

Today I helped an elderly lady carry her shopping from the bus stop to her house. I was rubbish at remembering to do Good Turns as a Brownie/Guide, and also I think you are meant to keep quiet about them and act as if being nice were actually part of your make-up rather than forced upon you by feminine institutions, but I WAS A VERY NICE PERSON TODAY.

I think it's RUBBISH that we're expected to do good deeds AND silent humility all at the same time. Well done on your niceness.

Thank you. I felt very good indeed.

Hurrah for being a nice person!

I always fear that someone is Going To Be Cross With Me for offering help, which makes good turns harder. Jay manages to do them spontaneously and quietly, and I am both impressed and rather jealous.

Also, I am SO about the mentioning it when you've done something good :)

I am only ever cross with people for assuming I want help and grabbing things from me, so I am always prepared for people to say no and then go about my business.

I think we should celebrate and make a big noise. We could make today the official SLEMSLEMPIKE IS ACE AND DID A HELPFUL THING day.

I was quite a bit rubbish at being a Brownie/Guide and never managed the whole armful of badges that I think the proper Brownies/Guides were supposed to have. (Cynically, I now wonder if that was partly because having access to all those crafty and skillful things and people to be able to teach you required a certain amount of money to spare for such things. To make a basket, you've got have stuff to make a basket with. Etc.)

I was okay at being a Brownie, though my badges were all of the "lets do this as a pack" variety, except chess, but Guies was just rubbish.

YOU ARE ALWAYS A VERY NICE PERSON. So there. :-) Also, that was a lovely thing to do.

I was a bit rubbish at the whole Cubs thing, and never got as far as Scouts. But I remember being on my way to a meeting (gathering of the pack, coven, whatever they were called), and someone stopped me and said, "Here, you're supposed to do good turns, aren't you? Do xyz for me!" Well, if you put it like that, NO.

I was relieved to discover that we were in fact headed in teh same direction, I am not sure that I could have been very pleased to walk a mile or so out of my way.

My dad left scouts because he didn't like the shorts. Then they introduced trousers.

You totally get a cupcake for that act of kindness. In addition to the birthday cupcake.

Yay cupcakes! And you will be having cupcakes to keep me comapny too, I hope...
