Ah, that could also be it! That is the other odd thing to which I am allergic. (Or rather, I'm allergic to liquorice. I have no idea what aniseed does to me but I can't abide the smell or taste.)
It's odd, all the banana-flavoured medicinal things here. In Australia, cherry flavour is the children's medicine flavouring of choice, and there's a national consensus that cherry Coke and similar drinks are the work of the devil.
