From Saturday to today

Micheal McIntyre was quite great. Though after the interval he decide not to use a microphone, but also not to make up for this by projecting his voice in any way, so eventually I had to muster my (miniscule) courage and shout across the room to ask him to use the mic again. Some other people went "ooooooohh", which was daunting, and he didn't seem to understand why we couldn't hear him, but then was nice and started using the mic again and told people off for "oooohhh"ing. Also he told us that the clocks were going back, which was useful as we hadn't worked that out. I thought he was really funny, but wished a little bit that he hadn't talked so much to the audience. Or different audience people.

Yesterday I went to Booths to shop. I have previously bought things at Booths but not actually shopped there, if you see what I mean. It's smaller than Sainsburys, which is nice because it's not like Sainsburys actually has better food or anything. Although Booths doesn't have a toys aisle, so I may end up with fewer action figures. But! But! A few weeks ago I went to the shop on our corner to buy chocolate, and happened upon Pirate Cereal. It is made by Weetabix, and is a tie in with Pirates of the Caribbean and is sort of like Kelloggs' Start, but in the shapes of skulls and crossbones! How good! Anyway, after I ate my way through those, I went back, but they were no longer on the shelves, and then Sainsburys didn't stock them either. But today in Booths, there they were. Bliss. I also found that they do cheaper black cherry yoghurts (my favourite flavour by an enormous amount) from local dairies, so I have three different varieties to taste test.

Pirate cereal! I am quite seriously thinking about stocking up in case it vanishes again. Of course, since the films are over (dear god, don't let them do any more), it's bound to go away quite soon anyway, but while there're product cards in the plasticky bits on the shelves, there's hope.

Last night I was woken up twice - once by a young man right under my window at 4am, asking his friend very loudly if they were going back to his for a smoke (I did not catch the reply), and then about an hour later when my finger started throbbing after what looks like a small insect bite. Boo.

On Radio 4 this morning, the presenter pronounced "schedule" as "skedule", and immediately corrected himself and apologised with a slightly panicked air about him, and said "I had to do that because there'll be letters". Quite right.

Today I am teaching a workshop on essay writing skills. I don't actually possess essay writing skills, but I do have a Plan.

Tonight I am going to see I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue with nerdcakes. Brilliant.

Ooh, I didn't hear the errant 'skedule'! I'm sure there would be letters. Or at least, LJ entries. Programmes should have 'trackback' URLs, so that you could go and find out what people have been saying. (Actually, this would be seriously useful, cos I'm forever late in watching things, and have to go rootling back on my friends list to try and find what they thought at the time.)

Good luck with your workshop. I'm sure you do have essay-writing skills, really! But Plans are good, in any case, so I'm glad you've got one. I hope it goes well. And enjoy ISIHAC!

It was at about nine o'clock, I think, just a bit before. He corrected himself almost instantly, so maybe people will be kind.

I can write essays quite well, but I have no method, really, and I don't think I should be telling my students that the best way is to wait until the last minute, panic and then write furiously until the deadline. No, we are going to talk about Planning and Structure and Argument and how they're NOT allowed to use Wikipedia EVER.

they're NOT allowed to use Wikipedia EVER.

I once banned someone from my lj for persistently quoting wikipedia at me. I felt it was a just and reasonable punishment.

It was Jeremy! I was terribly, terribly thrilled. It was so good. They were all there. They said all their jokes. We had ice cream in the interval.

One of my teachers tried to persuade me that skedule was the correct pronunciation. I'm afraid, as a rather stroppy 16-year-old that a) I was almost certain 'shedule' was right and b) even if it weren't, 'skedule' sounded ugly.
