Yes, and there is a complete elision between "he gets the impression that something sexual may happen", and "you have a responsibility for whatever he may or may not assume". I don't even think that it is wrong to assume that accepting an invitation to dinner might mean someone is sexually interested. I do think that it is wrong to think that if your assumptions turn out to be unfounded, then this is somehow underhanded of the OTHER person.
