La la la, I'm going to pretend you didn't say that about the 1996 film. (Not because I believe it is In Reality dire, but because I shall believe that I have Just Failed To See Its Goodness.)
As to the 1966 thing, I am frustrated as a local-to-Cushing Dr Who fan. The (general for everything) Whitstable museum made reference to C-as-DW and how it didn't count as canon, and I was vaguely outraged and indignant. Dammit, there are very few things that happen in Kent (Bagpuss and the Clangers - and the original Rupert Bear - being some) that I was kind of wanting a Kent-Dr-Who link. To be refused it on the grounds of "not really canon" pissed me off MIGHTILY.
