My laptop crashed rather horribly. Unfamiliar loud beep, blue screen of death, and then it claimed I didn't have an internal hard drive for HOURS. It ran loads and loads of weird memory tests, then rebooted. It got as far as Windows, and now "Startup Repair" is endlessly (as far as I can tell) pretending to attempt repairs.
I bought a new large external hard drive in January. I haven't actually got round to putting anything on it. Luckily I am currently in my parents' house, where there are four laptops and a desktop I can use to google possible solutions/panic. It is under warranty at least, and I am not actually in the middle of writing up any more. That's the Pollyannaing out of the way and now OH MY GOD I HATE THIS. CURSE YOU GOD, FOR MAKING MY COMPUTER THIS WAY. I'll have to ring warranty people and they'll try to tell me it's my fault and they can't fix anything, and I am not good on the phone with computer people, and this is APPALLING.
ETA: Okay, shutting it off and restarting seems to have worked okay. THIS TIME. So panic is dialled down to bubbling under the surface. I'll still need to talk to the warranty people, maybe.
