Ce soir j'ai essaye (avec un accent sur l'e... vous devez faire tous les accents vos meme pour cette journal) a lire "Journal Secret D'Adrien, 13 Ans 3/4", que j'ai achete quand j'etais en Luxembourg. Je penserais que ca va etre assez facile a comprendre, pour quoi je savais l'histoire. Mais non! Je pense que je doit commencer avec l'autre livre que j'ai achete - "Le Voyage en Angleterre", qui est pour les plus jeunes.
I decided this after I had had to recourse to the dictionary five times before I even got to the first entry. What I had to look up:
gagner sa vie - earn her living
oser - to dare
avouer - to confess (to something)
vriller - to pierce
bavarder - to chatter
tripoter - to fiddle (with)
le serment - a vow
un tablier - an apron
le menton - the chin
la veine - luck
se souler - to get drunk
It ruins the flow of the story rather to have to constantly look things up, so I shall try something a little less erudite to build up a slightly better vocabulary. This summer, the French Institute in Edinburgh are running courses where you do two hours of lessons every evening for two weeks. I thought I might quite like to try that. Having much better French, up to fluent if I can make it, would be good if I ever want to work for the EU, or for the UN. Or go to the DRC, or Montreal.
