I went to Stockport Museum of Hatting at the weekend. It was ace! I learnt a lot about historical methods of hattery - I hadn't realised that (high end) felt hats are made of fur. I now know what a planking kettle is used for as well. They had some lovely displays of hats upstairs, including pictures of famous people wearing hats, cases of religious headgear, and an information panel asking the question "isn't felt brilliant?". My favourite bit was the section with a whole load of hats and mirrors for you to admire yourself in different styles. I may post pictures another time. I highly recommend it as a way to spend half a day.
