This is largely a list of "what I can find in UCLan library", asmost of the month all my books were in boxes and largely inaccesible, except the Strangers in Paradise books, which I found I'd packed in a drawer. I'm finding that I enjoy Margaret Drabble a great deal, and thankfully there is a whole shelf of her books, so I can keep up with them. I find her narrative quirks a little jarring at times, but once I get used to them I think they fit in perfectly well. The Play Room was rather a shocking read. I picked it up because I'd enjoyed Doves of Venus last month, but this went rather differently, and the ending upset me a lot.

I liked My Friends the Miss Boyds, although having now read it I can see why [livejournal.com profile] debodacious doesn't like it; it's very sad. I'm going to look out for more, as the Lancashire library catalogue seems to have quite a few. Which ones are people's favourites? They have quite a few Jean Sandisons too.

Three New Girls was a little disappointing as the end to the Bramber Manor series, but I kind of knew it was going to be through comments in The Book (Encyclopaedia of Girls' School Stories) anyway. It wasn't dire, at all, but Catherine was gone, and the humour of Audrey, A New Girl, just wasn't working.

Hello! This must mean you're back, or magic, or both. Welcome and bienvenue and croeso and willkommen and all that stuff.

And well done on your reading, which still makes me blink.

Yes! I am both. I am in bed trying to recover a little bit.

It's not anything to be particularly proud of, I just happen to read fast. It's fortunate for me, because I like to read lots, leaning more towards binge than gourmet, but that's about it. Except it's a useful skill for finding out you've not done your seminar reading an hour before class.

I think I need a copy of The Book - who's it edited by?

I had a long reply about Jane Duncan and then realised I was actually talking about Jane Hope. Never mind, then. I keep seeing her books advertised in the back of Angela Thirkells - what kind of thing does she write?

It's this one, edited by Sue Sims and Hilary Clare, although the series editors (there's a boys' version) are Rosemary Auchuty and Jy Wotton. It's really expensive, but GGBP are bringing out a revised edition, although not very soon, which will have corrections and new appendices.

I can't really describe Jane Duncan - stylised Scottish rural stories about the author growing up. I think that they're largely autobiographical, although I don't know if that's right.

Ooo. Want. Really want, but cannot afford unless the latest round of eBay buyers go absolutely crazy.

I'd wait for the GGBP one - it'll be slightly more detailed, and probably about 15, which is nicer.

Dear LORD, I love SiP. I need to go to the library after work today. Thanks for the reminder!

I'm trying very hard not to run out and buy all the ones I don't have - I don't think the library here stocks them, unfortunately. So in love with them.
