I have skinned palms and a slight limp because the corridor back to my office was deserted so I decided to try a cartwheel, misjudged the angle and crashed into the wall. This has not remotely dented my belief that I am a gymnast manque. I was always better at round-offs anyway.

My last gymnastic injury was when I was waiting for a meeting and did a handstand against the wall, but apparently while my body is far ampler than it was when I last handstood, my arms are inexplicably no stronger in compensation, and so they gave way almost immediately and I crashed down, bearing that ampler weight on my head. It was a concrete floor. Ow.

The time beore that was when I was about 7 or 8, and watched some competition on TV. Then I decided I could very probably do a somersault in the air and dived head first off the dining chair I was standing on. At least there was a carpet involved in that one.

I am getting lots of emails about the strike action ballot and the nefarious nature of universities. It's very exciting. In a low-level, snippy email kind of way.

You do cartwheels when nobody's looking! That is the BEST THING EVER! It is WORTH the pain!

NOTE: This may well come under the heading of 'easy for you to say'. Yes.

It would have been perfect if it weren't for the undue narrowness of that corridor. Although now I worry that my cartwheels aren't as brilliantly straight as I assume.

It is worth the pain now that I can walk again and type with both hands.

Yes! Now they *have* to extend your contract, so that you can practise.

Am jealous. Have never in my life been able to do a cartwheel. Not even badly.

I used to be okay at gymnastics when I was little. Not great, but okay. I miss that!

Yay - I get to use my gymnast icon! Hope you have recovered from your cartwheel. The last time I did a round off I ended up with crutches and a plaster cast - just as well I din't gor for a back flip or I'd probably have broken my neck.

Round off is my most impressive move ever - I was never advanced enough for flips.

Oh, wow. I'd love to see people doing secret cartwheels in corridors. Especially if they're wearing ties. That'd be the best. I've never been able to do cartwheels or handstands. My arms just ask if I'm kidding, then they collapse.

I don't wear a tie, I'm afraid. I can't decide whether happening upon gymnastic activity would be better if it was rubbish or highly accomplished. Perhaps both.

If someone was doing fantastic gymnastics...and I do sort of wish I hadn't said that...all over a building, that would be a wonderful thing to watch. And doubtless very decorative. But sometimes it's just quite nice to see people fall over a bit. I don't know. You decide.

NO MORE WORKPLACE GYMNASTICS! I do fear for you sometimes.

Well, not until I get a wider corridor, no. Or, until the present corridors have a more padded carpet.
