[Poll #982795]

I have lost my bus pass again. This time I am positive that I put it in my pocket before I left the house, but when I got to the bus stop it was not there. Last night I dreamt that I found it, and was really pleased until I realised that I was still asleep. I would like to think that it was a prophetic dream, but it turned up in a place I've already looked, and I was wearing thigh high bright blue patent stilletto boots at the time, so I can't easily replicate the situation and hope for the best.

Doing crossword puzzles and playing Trivial Pursuit edumacates a person for both games.

It seems such an unlikely flower to be the American national flower. But it is indeed another step in the Edumacation of Slem Pike. Gosh I hope it comes up.

My problem with this is that I am from two places. And you have only allowed for answering that I am from one place.

That said, I honestly didn't think of national flowers for the US (although the Australian is the Golden Wattle). State flowers, yes, but national? Huh.

Yep. Given that it's not a rigorously methodical poll, I wasn't too bothered with all the options. I guess people will have to pick a particular way in which they are from places and go with that.

It seems to be an official national flower. I don't know why one would need one - the whole states thing with official everything seems very odd to me.

Because I was a guide (and because I love trivia) I can tell you most of the official state flowers of the states of Australia. And thanks to The American President I know that the State Flower of Virginia (in the US) is the Dogwood, and it is both a tree and a flower.

It's relatively recent too, I think something like 1986; same with the national tree which wasn't made official until Arbor Day 2004. Most state symbols have been official for at least 30 or 40 years, sometimes more, and are supposed to be representative of the local flora and fauna.

I still don't understand why the oak is the national tree though, it should be the Sequoia.

Okay, I admit I'm not sure what the official flower is, I don't even know the words to flower of Scotland. Actually, now I come to think of it the answers probably in there somewhere.

I don't even know which tune is flower of Scotland. And I am assuming that the official flower of England is a rose, but I don't know if it's actually official.

Now that I think about it, I don't think Canada has an official national flower. Each province and territory does, though. And we have lots of official symbols (like the maple leaf, and the beaver, and probably the hockey stick, sadly).

I get a bit confused about the official thing. I don't know if England is "officially" the rose, or if it just is. I suppose it's precedent like our law.

I hadn't even realised that there *was* a national flower of the USA. What purpose do national flowers serve, except to act as questions for Trivial Pursuit? It's a conspiracy, isn't it?

Those sound very interesting boots! You could get some and, even if they don't help you find your bus pass, you could still have fun wearing them. Seriously, I hope your bus pass turns up.
