A poll for a morning, a Thursday morning, apparently, which means that I must remember to buy the Guardian to get the booklet about Freshers Week.

[Poll #1446248]

And I would have posted about this horrible review in the Independent before if I'd been here. I haven't seen The Girlfriend Experience, though it sounds interesting, and I've no idea if his other criticisms are valid, but this:

One of them, the elephantine Tessa (Debbie Chazen) giggles nervously about going to see a play that she's in.
There's no point in not saying that these huge and unappetising women come across as being incredibly sad and curiously stupid, with their whale-like lolloping around

is fairly vile no matter what.

The worst kind of pub quiz questions are the ones about sport.

And my current answer to your final question is 1 but a year ago (when I did drink) it would have been 7 or 8, I think.

I can sort of see the sport ones because it's a valid category of questions. But motorways are just BORING.

You left out 'a team that IS Oxbridge', which is usually my pick because I feel so sorry for them if they lose.

I'm not sure whether 'pessimistic' is a word that I'd choose for you unprompted. I think you see problems that might arise, and you worry about them. Hmm, now I put it like that, so do I!

I'm hopeless in quizzes at pretty much anything that involves current popular music or sport.

I've just passed my driving test so am now free! free! to go to parties and evening socials with ease. And even though I very very rarely drink, now I'm thinking, "But I won't be able to drink any more!" which just goes to show that a) I have a pessimistic personality and b) the grass is always greener.

It wasn't left out, it was a deliberate choice! Partly because there are far too many of them swarming around the competition.

We are generally pretty good on the music round proper, and more general questions, but "what year" utterly stumps us. We are always one year out. Our quiz doesn't have a sport round, and when related questions pop up there is usually one person who knows enough to get it.

So far, most people think that they are optimistic, and most people think that I am pessimistic. I might do a thing to see if it correlates.

Congratulations! Since I passed my test when I go to stay with my parents I drive so that they can drink. It's why they keep me on their car insurance.

The 2 is because I do have the occasional alcohol containing drink so I would miss it. Before I started spawning I used to drink a lot more so it would've been a huge deal. I have 3 drunk icons for historical reasons.

No, no. The worst sort of pub team questions are the ones about celebrities. Or football.

I drink sometimes and would miss it a bit, I think, but also I probably wouldn't mind very much or have to change anything. Christmas might be very different though.

The question wasn't "what do you think the worst questions are", the question is "which of these do you think is the worst"! They recur far too much in my pub quiz and we do not do so well. And they are boring.

I have a completely unreasonable bias against UC teams containing only postgraduates. Not that I watch it very often.

I support any team that isn't Oxford.

And I AM about to be unable to have any alcohol at all! However my whole lifestyle is going to change dramatically once I move to Sudan, so I felt unable to answer the question.

I didn't tick the motorways bit because there is logic to how the motorways are numbered - or at least there is logic for the A and B road numbering and I assume the motorways also have that sort of thing behind them. I think knowing that logic does make it a bit more interesting, as you can see some history behind it all rathr than it just being random.

I don't watch University Challenge, so I left that one out. Yes, yes, am rubbish etc.

And cheerios is twice on purpose, not because I repeat myself, or have an unusual fondness for them.

I'm a total infrastructure geek, so I think motorways are fascinating in the abstract (although deeply dull to drive along)!

I probably overstated the whole 'lifestyle' thing. My lifestyle would remain the same, but my social life would be nearly unrecognizable. That might not be a bad thing.

I don't know if you're a pessimist, but I think you're well aware of when things go wrong or how they could potentially go wrong. I chose optimist for me because, while I may be aware of those things, I much prefer to stick my head in the sand and sing a happy song.

I have just put my Freshers guide in the recycling, would you like me to fish it out and send it to you? I can put it in the post at lunchtime. E-mail me your address if you'd like it.

My worst pub quiz questions are "guess that tune".

My last five things eaten include supper last night. Just so you don't think I've eaten that much for breakfast.

Thanks! I'm being put temporarily on the parents' insurance so I can drive them to the airport and back when they go on holiday next week. They have a Merc, I have a Fiesta - guess which I'll be driving when they're away?

I think that fact that I had to go back 36 hours to get the last five things I've eaten is a sign that I need to eat more, or at least more frequently. In my defence, I was having a duvet day yesterday, and there is no sense in eating a separate breakfast if you only wake up at lunchtime.
