Another "thoughtful" article from Abbey O'Reilly on the f-word, this time explaining why Katie Price is "downright irresponsible" for refusing to name the man who raped her. The f-word already have an article challenging this by Anji Capes, but for fuck's sake.

ETA: I removed a bit of this post because it was more mean-spirited than I wanted to be. Basically, I don't think that her f-word posts are doing what she thinks they're doing.

I tried to read that article yesterday, but I found myself getting dizzy from all the eye-rolling.

I mean, it is possible to make a post that talks about what it does legally and socially to name people, or not name people, and who gets to talk about rape and why in a considered and thoughtful manner, but THIS IS NOT THAT POST.

I am so pissy with the f-word lately. I already left them a snotty comment about one of their bloggers saying '1942, just after the start of WWII' and then, when a commenter politely called her on it, pulling privilege about how she's an American and it's an American blog and oh, by the way, did she mention she had a degree in American history, so of course she knows about world affairs.

World affairs, in this case, clearly not including the invasion of Poland.

Actually, different f-word blog. Well, they both make me eyeroll.

Yeah, it's a popular title! Although I think that in general Jess McCabe (I think) does a good job running the site, and the commenters are normally pretty good at pointing out when they're rubbish.

... Oh that rather filled me with some rage.

Yup. I think she thinks she's being provocative rather than a dick.

That post really annoyed me but I sort of see her point. Mostly I think Katie Price is in the unfortunate position of damned if she does and damned if she doesn't. And that Abbey O'Reilly really doesn't understand the varied emotions and complications of being raped.

I don't think she's really got a point in the post. I think I see what she's trying to do, and there's a lot of stuff to be said about how the law and other structures constrain who gets to say what about rape, but she comes nowhere near to saying it by insisting that Katie Price has to behave in a particular way.

I have yet to see evidence that Abbey O'Reilly understands anything, really.

Maybe it's just that she's pretty young, but Abbie O'Reilly always seems a bit dim. She over-writes around very vague subjects in a generally ill-informed way.

Yes, that's exactly it. Her posts have no real substance, just this sort of tabloidy style of outrage and fist-thumping around a not well-defined issue.
