December
There's Always Danny - Jean Ure
Say Goodbye - Jean Ure
The Life and Soul of the Party - Mike Gayle
Wish You Were Here - Mike Gayle
Faces of Humph - Humphrey Lyttleton
Mrs 'Arris Goes to Paris - Paul Gallicoe

Finishing up the Jean Ure trilogy. Vanessa is more annoying that I remembered, and Kate less so, but then I have developed increased sympathy for people who are a bit clueless. I did not much enjoy the Mike Gayle books (though thank you very much for lending them to me, [livejournal.com profile] huskyteer!). Partly I'm not all that keen on perspective shifts in books. Humph's cartoons were just lovely, as was Mrs 'Arris Goes to Paris. I did start reading about Mrs 'Arris in New York, but I didn't get to see what happened.

Everything I read in 2009 in list form, and in a table:

In 2008 I read 126 books, of which 17 were rereads. So only slightly fewer books this year, but more rereads. I am not sure how this will change post-PhD, and I suppose it depends on if I get a job, and what that ends up being. I am trying to follow along with [livejournal.com profile] wanderingrocks and read Ulysses, which I think will be quite time consuming.

Tempted by the Humph cartoons... his autobiography was lovely, though no celeb autobiography will ever equal Frank Muir's.

You're welcome! I liked Wish You Were Here very much, Life & Soul less so; there were too many characters and I kept forgetting who they all were and which one was narrating. I'd think I was reading a bit by one of the males and he'd suddenly start going on about which dress to wear.

They're very nice, with some writing about him as well. They're edited by his son, and done very lovingly.

Wish You Were Here was better, I think too. I think I liked the early ones very much because I hadn't read much in that sort of genre, and now they are a bit less new.

Good luck with Ulysses. I've been on page 68 since the year 2000.

I have put it in my bag. I'm sure the rest of the effort will be just as easy.
