My letter today from the NHS people told me that my recent smear test showed changes in the cells. I have a high level of confidence in the NHS people, so I'm very happy to believe that there's nothing to worry about. The associated leaflet seems to be telling me that they think I have HPV, which I'm more perturbed by. Mostly I feel a small sense of satisfaction that all the prodding around in smear tests have not been for nothing. Though miffed that I have to have more poking in six months.

I'm sure they'd poke you with more urgency if they thought there was anything to worry about, yes. I hope all goes well in six months time and that you don't have HPV after all.

(I want the HPV vaccine. Technically I don't think there's any reason I shouldn't have it except it's not liscensed for people my age. Huh.)

I had 'borderline changes' before, and had to have repeat tests every 6 months for about 18 months until they gave it the all-clear. Better to be safe than sorry!

Yeah, I'm not worried about it, and I'll go back reasonably happily for the 6 months thing. I just don't think that "reasonably happily" precludes moaning!

Oh no, definitely not - smear tests really aren't fun (and I had a letter yesterday telling me I'm due for one, is it really three years since the last one?)

The VG had a few abnormal smear tests last year - they repeated them very quickly, and sent her for a colposcopy which showed nothing to worry about - but she is also being followed up 6 monthly. It's good the NHS is proactive, I think, better safe than the alternative.

Definitely so, and also, they tend to be pretty proportionate in their proactivity - if it was really worrying, they'd have you back sharpish.

Glad for the not worrying, and yes, I think if there was they would definitely want to poke you sooner than in six months time.

I agree with everyone else. Hope all goes well in 6 months.

Ack, poking. I hope the next test goes well.

Exactly what everyone else has said. Also, sympathy for having to have an extra one in six months GACK. I hate smear tests. But yayy NHS, though.
