I have keys to my flat, which is very exciting, and I'll post more about at another time. What I actually wanted to say was about Christmas, I'm afraid. Basically, having been to see my flat, and bought a fridge and a bed and a washing machine with a handwash setting has been very exciting, but I am also very lucky and privileged to be able to do it. So I have done a small thing and contributed to Refuge's gift list, which I'm sure many of you know about already.

Refuge Christmas Appeal.

Refuge is a UK charity that helps women and children escaping domestic abuse. (They do recognise that men also suffer domestic abuse and need help, but they refer to the Men's Advice Line as it's not part of their specific remit). They have set up a gift list at John Lewis, mostly of toys and children's clothes, where you can buy a present so that they can make sure everyone who has to stay at one of their shelters at Christmas can have something to open.

I am counting this as my LJ Christmas present for my flist, which I haven't actually done before but often meant to - £100 of children's toys in your collective name (and imaginary, since there wasn't a space to explain...). Gift lists at places like John Lewis can often seem like it's all about people with lots of stuff asking you to buy them even more nice stuff, so I liked doing this. I got to buy dinosaur stickers! Also, since my nephew won't be very old, we're not showering him with toys at Christmas, but this way I got to buy toys anyway. Happy Christmas, anyway. I'm sorry it's so early.

I have a reasonably impressive series of bruises on my inner thigh from doing ropework at aerial class last night, and naturally I wanted to show this off to you. As I'm wearing jeans, the easiest way was to go to the toilet and divest myself of some clothing. I forgot, however, that my phone makes a loud clicking noise when you take the picture, and there was someone else in the toilet who now presumeably thinks I was either taking a picture of my bits, or of my waste. (I have done some beautiful poos in my time, but even I have lines that are not easily crossed.) I hope she doesn't know it was me.

Oh, that's really nice - thank you! (Amused by how quickly the Dr Who stuff is being claimed by donors.)

You are very welcome! I also liked the light sabres.

I think I would assume that you were disgusted by the state of the toilet and were taking a photo of it to show to the people in charge of maintenance. Unless it was a very pristine toilet, I suppose. Either way, I don't think I'd care unless you were leaning under the door and taking photos of me.

That is a good point! Our toilets are pretty clean, although apparently there was a phantom defecator in the changing showers last year.

Hurrah for flat keys! And that is an excellent list to donate to for Christmas and so on.

Last time I had to give a sample of wee, I had to leave the bottle on a trolley, next to someone else's. My wee was prettier than theirs.

And as someone who could never, ever make any progress up a rope in gym, I am seriously impressed that you can do things with ropes in the air and have the bruises to prove it.

I bet your wee was the prettiest anyone's ever seen.

They are purpling up nicely! They conveniently twinge a little, but not enough to actually impede anything.

What a great thing to do for Christmas -- thank you! I hadn't heard of the Refuge Gift List thingy, but it sounds like a very good idea.

Oh , brilliant idea. I'll get my kids to choose a present for another child from that list, too, I think.

Thanks! It really is just what I wanted and didn't know about.
And many congrats on the flat. May you have a lot of happy times in it.

I've been feeling very financially fortunate lately, also, and wondering what to do about it.

I am glad, it is tricky to find things that suits everyone.

I hope you will come for happy times here too.

That's lovely! Also bruises can be excellent if they were gained during something that pleases you e.g. for me rollerderby bruises were like a cool badge versus the ones I acquire from walking into things.
