There is a FIFTH Janie book by Caroline B Cooney, a final (possibly) sequel to The Girl on the Milk Carton. I had no idea. Based on my relative enjoyment of current Cooney to classic Cooney, I do not have high hopes, but OBVIOUSLY I shall be buying it anyway. Apparently Janie finally comes to terms with what happened to her. I'm not sure I'd ever come to terms with it myself, but there you go.

Finished Bring Up the Bodies last night, which I didn't love as much as Wolf Hall. I'd still be eager to read more, but it didn't feel as immersive. I know people had complained that just being "him" or "he" instead of Cromwell was confusing, but I hadn't found that so, whereas I did find "he, Cromwell" jarring. Now I am reading An Abundance of Katherines by John Green, after I loved A Fault in Our Stars. So far I am a bit untaken with it, though perhaps that will improve once I am further in.

I went to a pub for lunch for my birthday today, but I was too full and pressed for time to have pudding. I am sorry about this, I was going to have the guinness and chocolate sponge.

Wait, what!? I don't even know if I knew there was a fourth one. Or third one...Oh god I'm going to end up reading them all. Did you see the film?

No! I have heard tell of a film, but never seen it. It's got thimgumy in it, hasn't it? Kelly Bright? *checks imdb* Martin! Kellie Martin, who was Lucy in ER. Have you seen it?

The third book is voice on the radio, where her boyfriend uses her story to boost his college radio show ratings. The fourth one is where she Finds Something in her bio-dad's stuff.

I have seen it many times! It was on telly a lot at one point. It incorporates the first and second book, and I'd only read the first one, so I got to see what happened to her. Clearly there is more to know.

It is a fairly standard Kellie Martin tv movie. Lots of crying. A terrible Reeve who was possibly also on My So-Called Life if I remember right.

IMDB says he was Kyle, who was Sharon's boyfriend. He also played Duke Dunkington in a series of films I've never heard of. Duke Dunkington!

I probably hated him in Milk Carton because I hated him in MSCL.

(Also in Buffy as 'Way Cool Guy'. Strangely don't remember that one.)

Ah, Kellie Bright is Sally from the T-Bag TV series, that's what that name is. Now I want to rewatch those as well, though I fear they might not hold up. OH IT'S ON YOUTUBE!!!

Thank you! That sounds like a very good idea. Pancakes. I like panackes, and they're a very brunch thing to have.

The last Janie book is meh. I remember loving the first one, but I've read (or re-read) all of the follow ups in the last year, and they are not the same.

I loved an Abundance of Katherines, but I just found it fun. Unlike The Fault in Our Stars, which is heart wrenching.

The fourth one was pretty rubbish, so I don't hold out much hope for this one. Nonetheless, completism compels me!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

I had exactly the same reaction to 'he, Cromwell', which I felt Mantel had just put in because so many people mentioned that they didn't like the 'he's in Wolf Hall (like you, they didn't bother me at all - though she does the same thing in A Place of Greater Safety which has THREE protagonists, and that is way more confusing).

THANK YOU!

I have to say, that had it been three protagonists I'd likely have been begging for a differentiated he.

Happy Birthday- too full for pudding is a serious problem!

I haven't tried An Abundance of Katherines, I like Paper Towns quite a lot but I think A Fault in Our Stars is his stand out book.

Thank you! I think that had I had time and accomplices I could have managed to get some pudding in me, but people had to leave and so I thought I should too. I had a Freddo though, which my parents had sent.

Happy birthday, and may the year to come be full of puddings.
I should read Wolf Hall - I even have a copy - but I fear the opening icky stamping scene. Various friends have advised me to power on through. (You may have been one of them, my memory's not ideal.)

From: [identity profile] slemslempike.livejournal.com
Thank you! I hope it shall.

You could totally skip the stamping scene, really. All it does is provide context that he comes from hardship and violence, that his Dad's a badun and he, Cromwell, is resilient.

Happy Birthday! I hope there will be pudding on as many other days as you want pudding to make up for no pudding today.

The John Green books was never going to be very taking because the spelling of the name is wrong in the title.

Hee! I hadn't noticed that. You are quite right to be a stickler. It's got better, but it doesn't make up for the misspelling.

I trust you've had pudding by now.

Thank you! I have not yet had pudding, though I did have some wine, which was also nice.
