The cat has clawed great big marks into my right buttock. I am therefore withdrawing my earlier assertion (to him) as to the identity of the loveliest cat in the world. The claw marks are quite raised, though not too painful. Is he likely to have poisoned me? I should probably find some savlon.

To be fair, I startled him by suddenly throwing the duvet over him (accidentally) when I got up to go to the toilet. He is otherwise quite nice, though I could do without him attempting to wake me up by stabbing my scalp with his paws. And kneading my breasts with his paws. And coming and sitting on my neck to block the view of my laptop screen. But I enjoy him curling up next to me and rubbing against my arm. The other night I was playing Duke Nukem 3D (I have been revisting all the fps games from the 90s that I didn't play at the time), forgot that there was a cat in the house, and consequently threw my laptop across the bed in terror when I jerked my foot after encountering an enemey alien and met furry anger at 2am.

I have signed up to do a diving course! I am about to head off to do a theory session, and pool training tomorrow. Then next weekend I get to complete the actual dives in the sea "on a luxury yacht out of Hurghada". I am excited but apprehensive.

I would recommend the savlon, much as I love them (cats that is, not their claws!), cat claws do seem to harbour an unpleasant combination of germs and it's always better safe than sorry.

Hope the diving classes go well. Diving is one of those things I'm torn on learning - I love water but I am really quite claustrophobic and awful at holding my breath.

As I learned today, you must NEVER hold your breath while diving, so there is at least that!

He does all of those things out of love. Swollen painful love. I doubt he's poisoned you. You might have a bit of a cat allergy (I had to admit I had one when my parents' kitten were too tiny to retract their claws and the many many scratches I had all turned into angry raised welts). Or possibly not.

They seem to have gone down a bit, so I shall hope not to be allergic.

Do not get your hopes up too much regarding the "luxury" nature of said yacht.

It has a TV room! Though I'm more excited by a) the boat being parked next to the Hard Rock Cafe, b) the possiblity of having marshamallows by a campfire on an island (apparently only if the Captain doesn't kick up a fuss about said island being a protected national park), and c), that because it's a 3 day trip I can do all my advanced open water dives as well this weekend and knock off two qualifications in one.

Ooh that's great you can do it all at once! And the yacht was in Safaga rather than Hurghada when I went, so I missed out on the Hard Rock Cafe. In fact I don't think I've ever been to a Hard Rock Cafe anywhere, come to think of it.

I have been to one in Copenhagen, on two separate visits.

I am also now looking into the Ice Diver course.(For a goodly time in the future, obviously, since I'd need to master dry suits at the very least.) Think of it!

I would love to do ice diving, not least because it scares the shit out of me (I think because I saw this scene from The Omen II at an impressionable age). You can do it in Lake Baikal! And also under an iceberg in Greenland! I have been obsessively googling things related to Greenland lately.

Oh, that is totally not the scene I meant. Here is kind of is, though cut together to accompany a Metallica song:

I get raised marks when I scratch myself, so I think it's more indicative of 'scratching is irritating' than of cat-borne poison.

Diving sounds excellent!

The theory was tiring but I'm looking forward to the practical stuff tomorrow in the pool.

And this is why I could never have a cat. Even the 'good ones' will attack.

I would probably still never choose to live with a cat of my own accord, but this one is surprisingly okay. But ask me again when I've got scars on my face from startling him...

Savlon might not be a bad idea if it broke the skin, but antihistamine cream may be better as it'll stop itching and make the raised marks go down.
