My new debit card is flat, without the raised numbers. I realise this is probably better, not least because trying to read that when the silver has been rubbed off can be trying, but it is making me a bit sad. What if the credit card machines fail and we need to go back to the old ways - how can I pay by card if it can't be rolled over with a schick-schick to impress the numbers ineptly on a piece of carbon paper? Since I started working in shops (1997) it's all been electronic, but once our tills failed and for a whole glorious day we got to sell things using the schick-schick roller (and I got to out-arse someone criticising my beautifully handwritten receipt for not having a VAT number on it by pointing out that there was no VAT on new books). End of an era, guys.

Back home, and so far I have sorted out my tax return (at least if they accept my offer of a reduced payment on account for next year), my internet bill, paid my final student loan bill, bought a third version of the same phone I've left two of on transport, and sorted a repeat prescription. Amazing how productive I can feel when I'm not sweating my brains out. And when I'm procrastinating writing two handover reports.

I am off to the Coop to buy readymeals for the week and nip into some charity shops. I did some ebay shopping in the past few weeks which were waiting for me when I came home. Only one of the tops really doesn't work, and the Pepperberry dress I've been coveting for literally ten years fits incredibly well so I'm rather happy with that. Now I need a nice occasion to wear it to.

Yes! My new debit card is the same, and I had a moment of nostalgia for the time the credit card machines failed in December, in the toy shop I worked in, and I got to use the noisy machine,

Welcome back! Congrats on paying off the student loan! I also have a smoooooth card, and it feels like a fake or toy, like monopoly money.

Welcome back! Hope the plumber gets your water pressure fixed.

The dress find sounds very satisfying, do we get a pic?

I used to help my bellydance teacher sell her wares at events in the 2000s and using the schick-schick took me right back to my second Saturday job in a DIY shop in 1985/86 where we used the schick-schick all the time.

Hooray for the Pepperberry dress! I think you should wear it to the quiz on Monday week.
