I am having way too much fun on this. I love how the patterns change, and the unexpected difference. So did you know that Eileen and Aileen, both popular names in the 1990s that dwindled, appear to be experiencing a brief resurgance? That Mary was a top 1000 boys' name? That the name Victoria was more popular in the 1990s than it was in the 1900s?

You know who else would have loved this? Joey Bettany (Josephine most popular 1910s, apparently there's a rise in 2003). Malvina was the 862nd most popular name for girls in the 1900s. Oh, and Josette was on the list in the 1960s and 1970s! My (correct!) spelling of my name is less popular that the Other way of spelling it.

Yes, that's right. cuh luh ah ruh eh. NOT cuh luh rah ih ruh eh, as I used to argue with a friend whose parents had unfortunately not realised their error.

One of my childhood friends had the cheek to tell me that I spelled my middle name wrong. Pah!

You know, I think it's a very Cla(i)re thing to do, mind about the spelling of your name. It really does bother me if people misspell my name - I obviously don't mind how other people chose to spell their name (incorrectly!). Is there a similar thing with Ann/Anne? Rachel/Rachael? Katy/Katie?

Sorry to butt in, but I'm a Clare too. No 'i', thank you very much. I get very, very frustrated when people put an 'i' in it, particularly as my surname is both unspellable and unpronounceable, so believe people should make an effort with Clare ;)

It's only common courtesy to make sure it's right when people have names that can be spelt a few ways anyway.

I have yet to come across as Kafrin, but I'm sure it's just a metter of time. I do try to check the spelling before I send/write, but sometimes if I'm thinking of something else it gets sent off.

I'm Katherine Anne! No, seriously. In more spelling fun, the "Anne" part came from my mother, whose middle name it also is - although hers is actually "Ann", and she didn't know this until she got her hands on her birth certificate a few years after I was born.

I get seriously annoyed if people spell Katie with a "y". When I was 5, though, I went through a phase of spelling it that way, just because everyone seemed to be called Katie and I was sick of being like everyone else! My mum objected and told the school to ignore me! Over here, I usually have to spell it out to people - and because I don't know my German alphabet properly, it doesn't generally help... Kati (pronounced to rhyme with "tarty") is how they spell it and say it if I don't make a fuss.

Okay, now I know two Katherine Annes (or is she Katherine? Bugger.)! Actually, I was at school with another Clare Amanda (although she was Claire). Strange how some names seem to go together.

And Theresa/Teresa? Yeah, my sister gets her name spelt wrong all the time. We're all classically named here. As Elizabeth, I'll always be among the 1000 most popular names. Heck, even the 100 most popular.

As a KirstIn (only popular 1970s-1990s) I have defended my I to the last against the marauding hordes of KirstEns, KirstEEns, Kristins, Kirstys (shudder), Kirsties and that one-off KirstYn (I do believe it was my voice teacher, in 1990). It is something I absolutely refuse to let pass.
It is my name!
