Is there anything better than being really quite hungry, yet too lazy to go downstairs to get food, and then unexpectedly finding half a bag of gummy sweets in the folds of the duvet? I have to say no, there isn't.

Via [livejournal.com profile] ankaret - You Don't Have to Be Pretty. I love this. I have a friend who persists in saying things like "oh, she would look so much better in a nice pencil skirt" and telling me that I should wear more brown instead of black, when I love black, and also rather hate pencil skirts.

No kidding - the top three posts on my flist are (in reverse order) you, me stealing the link from you, and [livejournal.com profile] nerdcakes with the link from me. If only all viruses were that damn good.

I ate all of mine very quickly, and now I am at the same point I was before I found them only without any hope of more felicitious discoveries in the bedding.

Dude! Your bed is a bit like magic! Clearly I need to work harder on wanting things in a Hungry But Lazy kind of way.

All gone now. Boo. I have jam tarts downstairs, but they are DOWN the STAIRS, you know. Life is hard.

I have 13 books on my bed at the moment, not counting a programme and an A-Z. Also: mobile phone, phone, 7 DVDs out of the cases, two holders of cds, oyster card, tissues, personal massager, earplugs and empty packet of gummy sweets. Also scissors.

I have to go and wash the dye out of my hair now.

What with your DVD player and bags of sweets, your bed is clearly an excellent place to be!

Pencil skirt sound most bizarre leg-constricting things. I can't think why anyone would wear them. That's a goodly post.

Your bed sounds great. There's nothing at all actually on or in my bed, which does make it ideal for sleeping, but there are shelves all around containing all kinds of interesting things. Including an ammonite fossil, a plasma ball, a plastic Spock and two WW2 gas masks.

Two gas masks? In case you've got company when the time rift re-opens?

Your paraphenalia sounds very interesting. My shelves mostly have books. I do have a small black plaster skull from when I was a slightly morbid child.

My shelves are at least Quite Interesting. I might catalogue them one day when I've run out of alternative material for LJ posts. There are also several model F1 cars, an ARP warden's whistle and 50 toy sheep.

That link rocked. It was a big shift for me when I realised that I didn't need to 'make the best of myself' - conform to some kind of abstract idea of how I would look right. I think that's when I started to actually express myself through my clothes. I am quite happy to think 'Yes, I might look "better" in a different outfit, but I would look less like me.'

(More brown? Pfft.)

And just as importantly, I realised that other people didn't neccessarily strive to look their 'best' either - that they could happily go out knowing they looked ridiculous, or overdone, or underdone, just for fun. That distinction comes back to me whenever I hear someone saying 'They dress like X, therefore they must be [disturbed, attention seeking, depressed]' and I think 'No - possibly you think that if you were to dress like that, it would mean that you were [X], but it can't really be generalised.'

That was a bit rambling. Ta for the link, though.

I never really got the hang of dressing, and always felt vageuly ashamed for not caring about what I looked, and being reassured wherever I looked that yes, people were judging me for it. So I liked the link because it makes me relax more, and think that I can wear the comfortable tops that make me look like all my spare flesh has been pressed into service around my midriff and not care.
