CAULIFLOWER! So tasty, cooked a bit with curry powder and salt and YUM. I do like broccoli, too, but I couldn't make them equal when my mouth says cauliflower is so much superior.

I also kind of wanted an "er, maybe? it's all too hard for me to think about" option for that last question.

Yeah, I should have put that option in - I realised when I went to tick it that I'm not really sure myself.

Hah! I cannot manage my laptop keyboard!

I kind of avoid the question, because on the one hand I was having lovely respectful interesting sex at fourteen, and I know a few couples who've had to hide healthy relationships because of legal ramifications, but on the other I like the idea that the pervy people I was too naive to avoid had something barring them. Aiee? I don't know, that's the problem.

Cauliflower! Sweet florets of my soul. I am so glad you agree, for it shows you are Sensible.

All Right Thinking people know this to be true.

And that green peppers are sneaky. Beets are not to be trusted.

I am rather distressed at all this misplaced cauliflower appreciation. Cauliflower is disgusting. Worse is when they cook broccoli in the same pan, and the broccoli is contaminated. Ugh.

I would NEVER cook cauliflower and broccoli in the same pan at the same time.

I like BOTH of them, but prefer cauliflower.

And I like them both BEST raw.

I don't believe I've ever eaten cauliflower. But it can't possibly taste the same as broccoli, because it isn't as green. Broccoli is rendolent with the taste of green.

Cauliflower tastes white and a little bit spicy (like white cabbage, but less so) when raw, then tastes beiger the more it's cooked. One of my great-aunts used to cook cauliflower until it was more or less the texture of clotted cream. Yuk.

Ick. I don't think I'm missing out on much. Who are all these broccoli and cauliflower lovers anyway? You people are sick.

My mum does a great Delia cauliflower fried with onions and coriander. Not beige at all! Nutty, in fact.

Well, I do think of it as a sliding scale - just-cooked cauliflower is sort of cream (white, but warmer), only getting to real beige when you get near great-aunt territory. That Delia recipe sounds tasty, anyway. Fresh coriander or coriander seeds?

I don't actually know what the age is in Germany, but I'm assuming it's lower than the Irish 17, which I think is too high. Then again, it doesn't really make that much difference in practice, does it? To the best of my knowledge, no Irish 14-year-olds have been prosecuted for having sex with each other.

No, I don't think I've heard of it either, though I think much older men have been prosecuted for having sex with young teenagers.

Aren't there some states in the US that have a formal age gap clause, so that peers or near-peers having sex wouldn't be prosecuted, but say a 35 year old man having sex with a 13 year old would?

Where I lived in the US, 16- & 17-year-olds could freely have sex with each other, but if a 40-year-old were to have sex with a 16-year-old, it would be statutory rape. Although I do think many teenagers are capable of making a mature decision, I'm glad the law is in place. At the very least, it tells the old perverts that what they are doing is WRONG and GROSS.

Maybe I see too many teenages on a daily basis to have an unbiased view on this.

Loads of kids (boys usually) have been getting arrested in recent years for stat rape, even if they're the same age as their girlfriend. This has usually been occurring in the case of unintended pregnancy, the girl's parents decide to press charges.

cauliflower is too often overcooked. Broccoli is too often undercooked. Cauli is quite bland and needs like cheese or something to go with it, broccoli dun't. Also I don't trust either of their spellings. I think Collyflower and Brockolly should be the new spellings. All this Y avoidance is distressing.

I love undercooked broccoli. I like the stalks to be quite tough when I eat them. I rather like the new spellings, particularly brockolly. Redolent of umberllas.

Umberllas sound like some sort of Spanish wild mushroom. To be eaten sautéed with garlic, accompanied by a dry sherry.

I like our age of consent laws now that everything is 16 (er - it is 16 for heterosexual anal intercourse as well, isn't it?) with the proviso about people in positions of responsibility not being able to sleep with people under 18. That all seems terribly appropriate to me. And that sex under 12 is statutory rape. I agree with that, too.

Mmmm... cauliflower with white sauce. And for some reason broccoli makes me bloated and rubbish so I avoid it like a big plague type thing.

I don't think the age of consent in the UK works because it gives people tii much excuse not to teach safe sex and STI awareness to people "underage". Regardless of age of consent people will always have sex when they want, and are more likely to wait if they know more about sex than if they there's an age of consent. Additionally the age of consent laws are complete bollocks because as far as I know they actually only apply to women/girls and men/boys are therefore eligible for being prosecuted for statutory rape if they're 17 and having sex with a 15 year old. Seeing as in the majority of cases girls have been shown to be more mature than boys it's hardly surprising that they are often dating, and consequently having sex with, someone older. I think I read once that France has too ages of consent and the male age was older than females, but that may have just been a teenage myth.

I thought that 16 was for everyone. There have been women prosecuted for statutory rape, I'm sure.

I know originally it was definitely women only, and I don't know whether it was ever officially updated.

The one point I missed off of that mini-rant before was of course teenage pregnancy rates. The Netherlands, where the age of consent is 12, and where sexual health is taught from an extremely early age have a teenage pregnancy rate of 6.8 per 1000, compared to the US (where the age of consent varies but is often 18) which 83.6 per 1000 and the UK which is 46.9 per 1000.

In the U.S. the age of consent is 18. I think it should be 16. I certaintly don't think most 16-year-old kids are ready to be having sex, but anything younger than 16 is definitely too young.

I don't think we have a nationwide age of consent. I'm pretty sure it varies from state to state (for now).
